The Lake Manyara Tree Lodge

Photobucket

The other day I discovered a book titled African Interior Design lying on my shelf. There were TOO many wonderful houses, really really inspiring, but one just took my breath away! The one I'm talking about, is the Lake Manyara Tree Lodge, in Tanzania. Lying in the heart of a mahogany forest, the lodge is the only residence situated inside the Lake Manyara National Park.

Built literally in the trees using local wood and palm fronds the loudge blends harmoniously in with the surrounding forest. It's warm use of colour and illumination rends the rustic decòr elegant and most of all intimate. Vast windows enhance the view of the lush vegetation outside.
It's like a perfect-tree-house dream come true.

Plenty of privacy offering romantic bedrooms are connected to the big terraces which are perfect for enjoying the sunset after a long day of possible leisure activities (safari, bird watching, long walks and picnics near the lake). After one should not say no to a relaxing hot outdoor shower under the enchanting and immense african sky to finish the day.

Delicious home cooked cuisine, which served every night at open dining boma, can be learned first hand from the cooks.

I would say a dream place to go on a honeymoon!

My small world

This is my lovely room. It's REALLY SMALL, but I don't need so much space anyway. In my room you find a bed, two mirrors ( yes I need 2 of them so I can see myself from the back), closet, shelf and cupboard, which is utilized for the computer. White walls, wood and black iron + purple tones.
The most important thing in a small room are mirrors, which optically make the room look bigger, and a good illumination, which in my room is totally absent.
Most of the things in my room are from Zara Home, which I absolutelly ADORE!

Photobucket

It isn't so clean and ordered all the time, my sister kind a likes to get wild in my room. She loves all the tiny and sparkling stuff that, she knows, can't touch. But the thing, she loves the most, in my room, is the bed. In the morning she often comes to wake me and then crawls under the sheets, near me.. and we can lie there for hours. I adore here. She's only 20 months old. (doesn't speak yet but comunicates with us all the time!)
Photobucket

Only two pillows out of six are not from Zara Home: the first on the right side, which was made by my dear friend, Kàrt, for my birthday, and the first on the left side, second row, which I made myself, but haven't finished yet. My mom says, I've got too many of them, but they're just so adorable & cozy!

The Farnsworth House

Photobucket
It's my first year studying architecture (specialization starts at third year of liceo) and I really like it. Especially because of my teacher, who is just a genius in what he does. So, after an introduction on perspectives we went on studying main building costruction elements like doors, walls, stairs and windows. A bit boring stuff, but hey- that's the basics. And now we're doing extempores- we had to choose between different famouse architect's projects, study it and then copy it.without using squares- "a mano libera". I chose the Mies van der Rohe "Farnsworth House (1945-1951)". It was the simpliest projects and in the beginning I kinda didn't like my choice. But I did choose it by my instinct.. I just felt it near.. and infact.. although the plan is very minimalistic there are many constructional elements which made the whole thing fun.Estetically it is quite an eye-candy! The house was first commissioned as a place where to enjoy nature and engage one's hobbies like playing the violin, meditation and translating poetry.

It's made entirelly from steel and glass.

The interior couldn't be simplier. Thanks to large windows and white surfaces the light has no limits giving a natural illumination everywhere. We can also see Mies van Der Rohe's Barcellona chairs, which I personally find adorable (I prefer them white)

I like how the harmonical white goes together with every season of the year. It's minimal use of colour underlines the immense beauty of the nature. Basically we do not need nothing else!

You can read more about it here.
